Yew Wah Summer Service Projects: Beijing Migrant Workers English Language Service 7th July ~ 15th July 2007

As part of our ongoing commitment to developing all areas of a student’s life, this summer the Yew Wah International Education School is organizing two nine-day service project trips: one in Beijing and one in Jiangxi.

The Beijing project involves our students helping to run a five-day English language & character development camp for poor junior secondary school students at a school for migrant workers. This project will be done in conjunction with the highly regarded Song Ching Ling Foundation. We will be assisted in running the camp by a group of at ten experienced camp counselors from the United States. Our students will help them carry out camp activities and assist them with translation and teaching. After the five-day camp, students will have one day of sightseeing in Beijing.

This trip will be a good opportunity for our students to practice leadership and use some of the things they have been learning in their English and character development classes. Our students will be stretched, but not broken. They will be carefully supervised and at least one Yew Wah teacher will accompany every 10 students. In addition to our own Yew Wah staff, the American camp counselors will provide a rich English language learning and communication environment for our students.

As our students serve and lead, they will broaden their thinking, increase their compassion for others, strengthen their sense of responsibility to society and grow in personal maturity.

Objectives
Our aim is to help each of our students grow as they help others and serve society.
